If Not Now, When?

“You know, I would really like to take that trip I’ve always dreamed of, but I don’t think the timing is right.” “ I would love to go back to school but not right now.” “I really think making those changes would help my life a lot but I think I will start next month.” Sound familiar? Have you heard yourself say something like that? Has an opportunity presented itself and you looked the other way?

We have all experienced this at one time or another. Those are the times that when you look back on them, the words shoulda, coulda, and woulda are used. “I shoulda talked to that guy/girl. I coulda done that if I tried.” Some of the opportunities were bigger than the others. But what it all boils down to is taking action. Taking that next step to allow us the chance to see what is possible.

My favorite Dr. Seuss book is Oh, the Places You’ll Go. The general theme of the book is about the ups and downs people experience as they journey through life. And, by taking action and carrying on, you will succeed. “99 3/4% guaranteed!” as the author puts it. Part way through the story, there is the Waiting Place. It’s a place where we wait for all our ducks to be in a row before we do something. It’s a location we can visit but we shouldn’t linger.

I will challenge you the next time an opportunity pops up, ask yourself “if not now, when?” There are no guarantees in life, taxes and death excluded. That next day, week, month or year may not be there when you are “ready” to seize that opening. Go ahead, take that step, risk it. It can make a whole world of difference in your life.

Creating Wellness for Life

The Unique You

“Know thyself” the ancient Greek philosopher Socrates once stated. A powerful combination of two words. Truly knowing yourself takes time, introspection, and effort. Therefore we find it easy to avoid. Only once we do some ‘taking stock’ of ourselves and our lives can we make a plan. A plan that allows us to either stay on our current course or a plan that will allow us to make some often needed changes. You can be two or three degrees off course in your life and walk into a wall instead of through an open doorway, why not the doorway? They hurt less and tend to get us farther.

Successful people know their strengths and what they want out of life. They are able to focus their energies on those areas. Just as importantly, they also know what they don't want in their life. The power is in the knowing. Discovery, re-discovery and planning requires nothing more than a little time to catch up with yourself and reflect on the direction you want your life to travel in.

Sometimes when people take time for themselves other misguided individuals interpret it as being selfish. This is unfortunate. People who are in-tune with their own character and have accomplished a level of comfort and peace within themselves are truly able to be their best. For themselves, their families, their communities and their workplace. Take the time, get to know yourself!

“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” ~Dr. Seuss

Health News

Chiropractic can lower blood pressure

“A special chiropractic adjustment can significantly lower high blood pressure, a placebo-controlled study suggest.” Those who received the adjustments showed an average of a 14 point drop on the top number (systolic) and an average of a 8 point drop on the bottom number (diastolic). To read more:

Here is another study that demonstrates the health benefits of chiropractic care. Chiropractic is not a treatment for any disease or condition. But when the spine supports your nervous system, the body is able to be healthier and work better. It has wide ranging effects on every aspect of our lives.

Kids swallow hours of sugary food ads: study

“Children and teens are inundated with food ads on television, and most of the commercials are for the kinds of food that should be eaten rarely or in small helpings.” This study showed that over 72% of the ads were for candy, cereal or fast food. To read more:

In the ongoing battle of obesity and kids, they should they be spending less time in front of the T.V. When they are there, the kids are bombarded with ads about stuff they should be eating very little of. It’s another reason to pay close attention to how much our children are watching and what they are watching.
