August 2004
Congratulations Lance Armstrong on your 6th Tour de France win! I’m sure his chiropractic care played a role. I hope all those who watched and talked about the Tour and Lance in the office enjoyed it. Now it’s on to the Olympics. Go Canada Go! As always, please forward this to anyone who may benefit from it.

Act Like You’re Pregnant
When a woman becomes pregnant, the advice given to her by her doctor includes many things. Stay away from caffeine, pain relievers and alcohol. Drink lots of water, take a good multivitamin and maintain activity levels. Get lots of rest, eat well and be kind to yourself. These are great recommendations. It’s too bad they aren’t followed all the time.
The health and well being of the mother becomes the number one priority now that she is caring for two. She is more deliberate about looking after herself. She puts her needs first. The goal is to be as healthy as possible to help the growth and development of the life inside her. These principles need to be applied to everyone, not just expectant mothers.
It’s time we shifted our health up the list of priorities of what is important in life. We need to consider what we can do today to improve our well being rather than just paying attention to it when we don’t have it. To be the best mom, dad, partner or person we can be, we have to put our health in front. If we are run down, sick and tired because we take care of everyone and everything else first, everybody loses.
So whether you are male or female, try acting like you are pregnant when it comes to your health. Do the little things that make a big difference in your well being on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Care for yourself like another life depended on it. Put yourself first.
Question of the Month
What do chiropractors treat?
Chiropractic is not a cure or treatment of any particular disease or condition but improves the body's ability to heal, guide and direct itself. The purpose of chiropractic care is to improve the function of your spine, which reduces the interference on the nervous system. When that interference is removed, the body operates more efficiently. The inner wisdom or intelligence of the body is then better expressed. This impacts all areas of health and improves your quality of life. Although a number of specific conditions respond well to chiropractic care, the body simply works better with a healthy spine and nervous system. Consult a chiropractor today!

Chiropractic and the Olympics
Chiropractors from all over the world will gather in Athens to take care of the Olympians. They will be there to ensure that the athletes are at their best as they strive to accomplish their lifelong goals. There are two chiropractors joining the Canadian Olympic team, Dr. Lawrence Scheldewitz of Steinbach, Manitoba and Dr. Wilbour Kelsick of Port Moody, B.C. Relationships Between Doctors and Drug Companies Under Scrutiny
“An estimated 80,000 drug company representatives with more than $19 billion of promotional budgets, are pushing drugs on doctors every day.” This was one of the conclusions of an article published in the May 2003 issue of the British Medical Journal. To read more:

This is an eye opener when you consider how many people this affects. As the author, Ray Moynihan, writes “There is a brewing conflict between the world's leading medical campuses and big pharmaceutical companies. Twisted together like the snake and the staff, doctors and drug companies have become entangled in a web of interactions as controversial as they are ubiquitous.”
