The Straw, the Straw Bale and the Camel’s Back
Ah yes, the straw that broke the camel's back. If you are not familiar with the ancient parable. the poor camel collapsed after one more straw was loaded on to it. It wasn't that the camel wasn't strong enough to carry one more straw; it was all the other straw that was piled up that caused him to fail.
In my average day, I see a lot of camels. Camels that just received that critical straw. “I don’t know what I did!” or “I was just bending over to pick up my pen and look at me now!” Comments like that. For them, straw after straw became a bale or two and things gave way. Stress built up until their spine and nervous systems couldn’t take it anymore.
In a situation like that, I help the spine and nervous system heal itself. I also try to help the patient remove a few straws that may have accumulated. Unfortunately, most of us are carrying around a bale or more that never gets addressed. In our office we now have a world class, fully integrated system to help you drop that bale of stress, or I mean straw, and experience true wellness.
Creating Wellness is a comprehensive system that assesses how big your bale of stress is. It’s called your Wellness Quotient. Once we have that information, we can offer you individualized programs that help reduce the size of your bale of stress with measurable results. And you don’t do it alone. We will be there every step of the way with weekly coaching.
We are proud to offer this revolutionary system to our community. During the month of February, the initial assessment that generates your Wellness Quotient is $50 for existing patients, a $25 savings. Book now,
jan@docstacy.com, to start your journey to wellness. You can also get a closer look at our Grand Opening on February 27. Lose that bale of stress and reclaim your life.

Creating Wellness for Life
By Carol Simpson
Your Wellness Coach
Been there. Done that. Several times actually. Feeling overwhelmed and not knowing where to start. Knowing that things need to change but not sure which direction to go. It’s frustrating knowing that you want to transform the way you approach your life and your health but where do you begin? You don’t know where to go to get the information and help you need, what to start first or who to trust.
Do you go it alone and see how it goes or seek help? Should you try getting exercise under control first and then your diet or the other way around? Just really how important is drinking all that water anyway? Why do people stress eat or barely eat at all when really stressed? Is wellness something you are or something you do? Is there someone out there who could journey with me as I make these changes? The list goes on and on. Good news! We are here to help you sort out all of those seemingly endless questions.
As Dr. Stacy spoke of earlier in this newsletter we are very proud to present our Creating Wellness System to you. The Creating Wellness System is a world-class, fully integrated, customized program that focuses on all 3 dimensions of your life. My role in this effort will be to assess where you are – your Wellness Quotient – and coach you along the way when you enter the program to make changes in your health and life. Officially my title is Wellness Coach but Dr. Stacy often refers to me as the hand-holding butt-kicker. Always there to help in whatever forms you need.
In an effort to bring you even more valuable and insightful information we would like to introduce
Creating Wellness for Life, the latest addition to our monthly newsletter. Within this column we will be looking at the almost unlimited amount of things that make up our health and wellness. All those little puzzle pieces that add up to make the overall puzzle big, bright and beautiful. Each month the focus will shift between one of the three dimensions of stress addressed in the program. We will give you information, some things to consider and maybe a few pointers that you can implement into your own life. There may even be an awesome website or two!
If you want more information on Creating Wellness, a topic that would really interest you or something that would be a great addition to the Creating Wellness for Life section please drop me a line and let me know. I would love to hear from you. Contact me at carol@docstacy.com or call 340.0278.

Nervous system appears to play key role in developing Type 1 diabetes: study
Canadian-led research suggests that immune cells aren’t the only culprit in developing Type 1 diabetes – the nervous system also plays a pivotal role. It’s long been accepted that the disease occurs after a severe miscue by the immune system causes insulin-producing cells in the pancreas to be destroyed. There may be more to it.

"What we really have discovered is that the immune system is under much closer control by the nervous system than we thought, that this control to a large extent involves sensory nerves," remarked the head researcher. What is one of the easiest ways to keep your nervous system healthy? Regular chiropractic care! While not being a cure for any disease whatsoever, chiropractic care can improve how well your nervous system works.
Ear tubes don’t make a difference in learning
“Most toddlers with frequent ear infections don’t need ear tubes to preserve normal learning and behavior through primary school, according to a study challenging one of the big reasons for the procedures.” It was thought that repeated infections and fluid build-up would dampen hearing and slow language and other learning. This study says that this may not be the case. To read more:

This procedure has been controversial from the beginning. When weighing the risks to benefits of any surgery, it is important to know both sides. Here is more information to help make that decision.
