New Year's Resolutions
How many have you made? Are you making any? Start the New Year off by setting some life-improving goals. Being healthier is a great place to start. Buying that gym membership, eating better and getting adequate rest are good places to start. What about regular chiropractic care? The benefits of doing so are many (higher levels of performance from your body and a clearer mind to name a few) and it maximizes the benefits of all the healthier things you do. A consistently balanced spine means less tension on the nervous system and a better you.
Here are some tips for setting those resolutions and goals.
1. Aim high, but not too high. Give your mind a reason to say, "Wow, that would be great and I believe I can do it."
2. Set realistic time frames around your goals. You can't plant your garden in June and expect vegetables in July.
3. Remember why you set them. It has to seem worth it for you to work towards it.
4. Establish milestones or mini-goals along the way and celebrate your victories as you reach them. Reward yourself frequently!
5. As you progress, you can set more elaborate and challenging goals. Be patient and let the process unfold naturally.
Keep it simple! Take a piece of paper, and write down a few goals, right now! What is one major goal you'd like to accomplish -- lose twenty pounds? Read twenty books? Make twenty thousand more this year? Go on twenty dates? Take twenty days off? Write it down. Writing your goals begins a process that leads to a spectacular life -- but don't take my word for it -- try it yourself!
I heard a song on the radio recently, "My Next 30 Years" sung by Tim McGraw. The song was about how he was going to do things differently in the his next 30 years of life. Something to think about as you set goals and go about your day.
Question of the Month
Why is it when there is a “flu bug” going around not everyone gets sick?
Viruses and bacteria are opportunists. What that means is they don’t stand a chance unless your body is rundown. In fact, a lot of the viruses and bacteria that are said to cause sickness and disease are present in your body every day. They can only be harmful when the system weakens. So how can you keep your body running well? The obvious answers are good nutrition, adequate rest, moderate exercise, and a positive outlook on life.
An often overlooked aspect is a healthy spine and nervous system. If your brain and body cannot communicate clearly, you can’t mount the proper defenses, you may not get the complete nutritional value from your food and you’re not reaching your potential. Get your spine and nervous system checked regularly to ensure you are as healthy as you can be.
Health News
Aspirin, acetaminophen may prolong the flu
This information comes from a review of several studies. Flu sufferers who took one of the anti-fever medications were sick an average of 3.5 days longer than those who didn't.
Sometimes you have to take something when you are sick, that is a personal decision. Consider this, is it better to let the body do what it is designed to do? Keep yourself healthy and let your immune system exercise itself by fighting the flu rather than suppressing its natural response.
Stress puts a strain on the body's immune system
Relatively minor stress can greatly impact how effective our immune system response is. Read the entire report at:

A great way to combat stress is a strong nervous system. If you perceive your stress correctly (the responsibility of the nervous system) your response will be healthier and less damaging to body.
