Bang Your Head

Our first newsletter of 2007 is not about a return of ‘80’s rock. We will not be discussing if Twisted Sister or the Scorpions were the better band or had better makeup. We won’t talk about who you would like to see tour again. Instead, we will be looking at a profound concept about health and wellness.

We will start with a story. A patient walks in to see a chiropractor. He suffers from headaches. The doctor does his exam, adjusts him and his headaches go away. The patient is very grateful. He thinks chiropractic care is pretty amazing. The patient goes home and continues what he has always done and his headaches return. He goes back to the chiropractor and says that his headaches are back and 'you need to fix them'. He gets adjusted, feels great, and returns to his old behaviors and sure enough his headaches come back. Upset, he is at the chiropractor again and the cycle continues.

Guess what his habit or behavior was between seeing the chiropractor? Banging his head against a wall. Do you think this person is getting the most out of their care if they continue to do what caused the problem in the first place? Absolutely not. The chiropractor was helping repair the damage. But he was not helping the patient with what was re-creating the problem. If you can discover the habit or behavior that puts negative stress into the system, you can transform your life.

Creating Wellness is a comprehensive program that looks directly at the ways you may be re-creating negative stress in your life. It looks at the three key areas of your life; physical, bio-chemical and emotional, and where you might be banging your head in these areas. It then offers choices to help you lead a healthier and more productive life. Stay tuned for more details as we introduce this exciting program to our community.

Question of the Month

How can I get the most out of my adjustments?

Here are a few points to consider:

Your adjusting time is your healing time. Turn your focus internally to your body and let go of outside pressures of home, work and life when you step into the office.
View your adjustment as neurosurgery without a scalpel. There is incredible power with every adjustment. Focus your mind’s eye internally on your energy being released and your life force being restored.

Allow yourself time to heal. Know that you are completely capable of healing yourself and allow the life force inside of you to do just that. See yourself as a well-orchestrated symphony of trillions of cells beautifully conducted by your nervous system.

Health News

FDA approves first drug for obese dogs

“Is your hound too round? Too much flab on your lab? Is your husky, well, husky? A new drug may provide some help.” “This is a welcome addition to animal therapies, because dog obesity appears to be increasing…” To read more: http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2007-01-05-dogobesity_x.htm

I don’t normally comment on pet health issues but this is a classic case of “banging your head”. How about not feeding Fido so much? How about getting the leash out and taking him for a walk once in a while which will help the owner’s health as well. We have to change our thinking if we are to change our health and even our pet’s. Drugs are not the only answer.

Uneven leg length may boost arthritis risk

“People whose legs are of uneven lengths are at increased odds for knee and hip osteoarthritis, U.S. research suggests. The study concluded that a leg length difference of as little as two centimeters (about 4/5ths of an inch) could raise osteoarthritis risk.” To read more: http://www.healthscout.com/news/1/535979/main.html

Subluxations or misalignments in your hips and low back regions can directly affect your leg lengths. Regular chiropractic care helps maintain the balance in the body and will reduce the stress placed on it. This can have an effect on osteoarthritis. Get your spine checked today.
