Chiropractors - Life Brokers

In everyday conversation, chiropractors are referred to by a number of different names and luckily most are printable. Phrases like “I’m on my way to the bone cruncher” or “I’m off to get my back cracked” are often heard. I would like to introduce a new idea you might want to use the next time you head off to the chiropractor, “I’m off to see my life broker.”

Most people think of the pain-relieving aspects of getting your spine adjusted. Underneath the surface, much greater and bigger things are happening. As the spine is placed into a healthier position, your nervous system has less interference and tension on it. This has a profound effect on your entire body. It is now capable of performing at a higher degree, right down to the cellular level.

For example, what if the communication between your stomach and brain was fuzzy? Would all the great food and the vitamins you eat be used to their full advantage? Probably not. If there is interference on your nervous system, messages controlling digestion may not arrive on time or in the right amounts. You would not receive the complete benefit for the effort you are putting out. This would affect how well things function on the inside such as your spleen or your adrenal glands. This reduces the amount life your body produces.

We usually think of a broker as an agent or representative for a company that provides items such as homes, stocks or insurance. They enable you to get more of what you need. A chiropractor, by removing spinal interference from your nervous system, can give you more life. Less static on the line means the brain and body are better connected; you are more creative and perform at higher levels. This enables you to be full of life.

Before you stroll into the chiropractor for your next adjustment, tell your friends you’re going to your life broker for a fill up! Get yourself some more life.

Question of the Month

I am busy over the summer and I don’t see my chiropractor as regularly. How will that affect my health?

The quality of your health today is a result of the habits you have established up to this point. Missing a few adjustments may not affect your health today but it has an impact in the long run. Regular chiropractic care is the same as healthy eating, exercise and adequate sleep in terms of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Make a point of keeping up your health habits even though your kids are out of school and your routines have changed. You may have to adapt them somewhat but don’t forget about them completely. What you do about your health today affects your health tomorrow. Have a great and healthy summer.

Heart Can Repair Itself, Study Shows

This is very interesting. According to the study, scientist now recognize that a "mechanism exists" which allows the heart to generate new cells, reportedly opens up new prospects for more therapies. The complete article can be found at the following location: http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/20010606/hl/heart_4.html

This is another example of how marvelous our bodies are and how little we really understand about them. Until recently, medical "science" thought that brain cells couldn't regenerate. They discovered brain cells can. Now we find the heart can do the same. The body is self-healing and self-regulating, even the brain and the heart. Never sell the body short on what it is capable of, even if it goes against conventional wisdom or proof. Keep that body healthy so it can work its miracles.

Chiropractic helps in treatment of addicts

From the March 29, 2001 issue of the Miami Herald comes a story of how chiropractic care is helping those in a Miami drug addiction program. The story starts by explaining that patients in a residential drug-addiction program who received chiropractic care designed to realign their vertebrae completed the treatment program at a remarkable 100 percent rate.

Ninety-eight patients at Miami's Exodus drug-treatment program participated in the study that was featured in a Journal of Nature magazine called "Molecular Psychiatry". The study also reported that the patients involved in the study at the treatment center who received chiropractic care made fewer visits to a nurses' station and showed significant decreases in anxiety.

Dr. Jay Holder, medical director of the Exodus program and the chiropractor who conducted the study said, "Completing a 28- to 30-day program greatly enhances an addict's chances of staying clean, but nationally only 72 percent of participants make it all the way through such programs."

Holder went on to say, "This correction of what chiropractors call subluxation results in a sense of well-being that allows patients to benefit more thoroughly from the group therapy and medical care of addiction treatment." "Chiropractic does not treat addiction -- it does not treat any disease,'' Holder said. "We're allowing those things that treat addiction to be embraced more thoroughly.''

The participants were divided into three groups. One group got the regular regime of addiction care. The second group got "sham" adjustments, while the third group got actual chiropractic adjustments to correct subluxations. The group with the regular care and the sham chiropractic had a completion rate in the program of only 74% and 56%. The group that received the chiropractic care to correct subluxations showed a completion rate of 100%. The implications of completion of a drug treatment program are very important to preventing addicts from returning to drugs. Pretty cool stuff!

Office Happenings

1. A great big thanks to all those who participated on our 24 Hour Relay team! Over $32,000 was raised for the youth of our community (including D.A.R.E., and Youth and Volunteer Centre) for the event. Our team was well represented and we had lots of fun. Start preparing for next year.

2. Westerner Days Parade. Join us on Wednesday, July 18 as the parade passes right outside our front door. We have great seats, we will be handing out balloons for the kids and generally having a great time.

3. Holidays. The office will be closed on Friday, July 20 and then from Monday, July 30 to Thursday, August 2. The office will be open on Friday August 3 for the regular hours. Make a note of this so we can continue to improve your health over the summer.

4. Happy Anniversary. We are celebrating our second year on July 4. Time flies when you are having fun! Stop by for cake, juice and say hi.

5. Alberta Health Care coverage renewed. If you've been waiting to get adjusted because your health coverage ran out, it is back in on July 1. It's great that it is back in but consider how much your health is worth to you. Don't let the government decide for you how healthy you want to be.
