“Sometimes when you think you are done, it is just the edge of beginning. Probably that's why we decide we're done. It's getting too scary. We are touching down onto something real. It is beyond the point when you think you are done that often something strong comes out.”

Patch, Repair or Transform

When someone seeks out a chiropractor for help, there are many possibilities for them. The main reason that they pick up the phone and call is because they are in pain. But that pain gives them the opportunity to make some big changes in their lives.

The way I see it, my job as a chiropractor is to tell you the truth about your health and the consequences of the choices that you have to make. I will then provide ways of helping you achieve whatever goals you choose. There are three main options available to someone who wants to move forward with chiropractic care.

The first choice is to patch the problem that brought them into the office. This is the quick fix or “duct tape” approach. Once the pain is gone, their goal has been met. They discontinue their care but often will seek it out again if the pain or problem returns.

The second choice is to take it a step further. Repairing the problem is an approach that takes more time, effort and commitment from both the patient and the chiropractor. The rewards are also greater. It looks at taking care of the pain the person is experiencing but also dealing with how well the entire nervous system is functioning. By improving how well the nervous system functions, it positively impacts the person’s overall health.

The third choice available is to deal with the pain, improve the nervous system and make lifestyle changes to prevent re-creating the problem that brought them to the office in the first place. This is where the transformation can take place. By dealing with how we approach our lives on a daily basis and determine which habits are helpful and which aren’t, we can start to experience wellness in all dimensions of our lives.

The combination of chiropractic care and the Creating Wellness system in our office gives you the opportunity to patch, repair or transform your health and well being. The choice is yours.

Creating Wellness for Life

Are you a Hungry Girl? Or boy for that matter?

If you are anything like me every once in awhile you stumble across something on the Internet that makes an impact within your life or lifestyle – sometimes it’s big, sometimes small. Mine wasn’t so much a stumble upon as a good friend sending me the link to a website she thought I would be interested in and boy was she right.

Please let me introduce you to the world of www.hungry-girl.com. This is a sparklingly well put together site (in my humble opinion anyway). The creator of Hungry Girl is Lisa, an everyday type of gal in California who has a long history of weight struggle and wants nothing more than to eat well and stay at a healthy weight (sounding familiar to anyone?). Within the website there is food news, fantastic food finds, diet Q & A’s, polls, reviews, opinions and survival strategies among many other things. There is also the opportunity to sign up for a newsletter that I highly recommend. I have gleaned many wonderful nuggets of wisdom and ideas from these informative and often humorous e-zines.

While I won’t pretend to agree with everything she says there is enough brilliant information available to make the visit worth your while. A good rule to apply to this website as any other website, take whatever information ‘speaks’ to you while using common sense and leave the rest behind. Unfortunately, some of the food she reviews is unavailable in Canada but a lot of it can be found in our local stores. There are many things that I can say I have either tried or continue to eat only because I read about them through Hungry Girl. Now go check it out!

Health News

Rolling sneakers blamed for rise in kids injuries

“Trendy wheeled sneakers that let kids zip down sidewalks, across playgrounds and through mall crowds could also send them rolling into emergency rooms on a stretcher, say doctors who blame a rash of injuries on the international craze.” To read more: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19014800/

I have commented on “Heelys” before in this newsletter but here are some stats as to their dangers. Broken ankles, arms and wrists and even cracked skulls have been reported. Safety is highly recommended. Consider them like roller blades and protect your kids accordingly. The shoes also put undo stress on the ankles, Achilles tendons, hips and low back as they change the biomechanics of the area.

Up to 25% of wrongly diagnosed as depressed: study

“As many as one out of every four people told they have depression could, in fact, be reacting normally to some of life’s more troubling times.” This study comes from the Archives of General Psychiatry published in April and was based on a study of 8,000 people. This is a study that needs to be listened to. The point is made that when people experience emotional stress like the loss of a loved one or a divorce it is a normal reaction to struggle for a while. The researchers also said that medication in these cases is unwarranted, even dangerous when given to teenagers. They suggest that more emphasis be put on physical exercise and cognitive behavioral methods to build confidence and coping skills so people can handle a crisis when it does strike.

Office Happenings

1. Creating Wellness Chiropractic Collects Clothes.
Since we have introduced the Creating Wellness program to our office, people who participated in it have transformed their lives and their bodies. As a result, some of their clothes do not fit! So for the month of June, we will be collecting clothes to be donated to Loaves and Fishes as well as other local charities. Anyone is welcome to drop their gently used clothes at the office and we will pass them along.

2. Wellness Orientation Workshops. Do you want to spend less time worrying about your health? Learn more about chiropractic and your health and you will learn how to have a big impact on overall well-being. The workshops for June are Wednesday June 6 and Monday June 18. They are held here in the office at 5:30 pm. Friends, family and any one interested can attend.

3. Rate Changes.
As we integrate the new and more comprehensive scans in the office, the rate for that service will change. As of June 11, 2007 an initial chiropractic visit and assessment will $75.

4. Office Hours. Here are our office hours: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8:00 to 12:30 and 2:00 to 5:30, Tuesday 8:00 to 12:30 and Thursday 1:00 to 7:30 pm.

5. Carol Away From the Office.
Carol is away from the office on Thursday June 7 and Friday June 8. Group coaching will be offered on Thursday night at 7 pm with Dr. Stacy.
