How to receive a great chiropractic adjustment!
Follow these steps to receive the most out of your adjustment.
1. Your adjusting time is your healing time. Turn your focus internally to your body and let go of outside pressures of home, work and life when in you step into the office. Turn off your cell phone and leave your pager in your car.
2. Develop a Wellness Chiropractic Lifestyle. We encourage you to participate in the learning experience in our open adjusting suite. This is your opportunity to receive more value with every visit.
3. View your adjustment as neurosurgery without a scalpel. There is incredible power with every adjustment. Focus your mind’s eye internally on your energy being released and your life force being restored.
4. Allow yourself to heal. Know that you are completely capable of healing yourself and allow the life force inside of you to do just that. See yourself as a well-orchestrated symphony of trillions of cells beautifully conducted by your nervous system.
5. Rather than leaping up after you’re adjustment, take a few breaths and move purposefully. Allow time for the changes to take place.
Print this off and post it on your fridge or some place you will see it often. Don’t forget, it takes time to heal. The journey to better health and wellness is one step at a time.
Question of the Month
Can being under regular chiropractic care help my golf game?
A healthy spine and nervous system go hand in hand to keep you at your best athletically. In a game such as golf, there are many skills and actions that have to be coordinated at precise times. From the fluidness of your swing to the touch on your putter, the part of your body that has the greatest influence on these is your nervous system. It is the relay system that keeps the mind and body connected. The spine can support the nervous system and you can perform these skills better or it can interfere with it and throw off your timing and touch. In fact, professional golfers such as Tiger Woods use regular chiropractic care to maximize their performance. Keep your spine and nervous system healthy to start this season on the right foot.
Health News
The Role of the Central Nervous System and Disease
This fascinating article comes from the journal Medical Hypotheses. It is titled "Thalamic Neuron Theory: Theoretical Basis for the Role Played by the Central Nervous System (CNS) in the Causes and Cures of All Diseases" and can be found in the 1994 edition. The gist of the article talks about the ability of the nervous system to learn to be sick or it can learn to be healthy. Here is a wordy quote:
"Inherent in its capacity to learn and adapt (i.e. to
habituate) is the CNS' ability to learn to be sick (pathological habituation) by looking in certain deranged central neural circuitries, leading to chronic disease states. These pathologically habituated states can be reversed by dehabituation through manipulation or modulation of the abnormal neural circuits by physical means (physical
neuromodulation)."
Whew! Okay, now for the translation. A healthy nervous system, when confronted with stress from a misaligned portion (a subluxation), sets up bad habits (abnormal neurological reflex loops) that can involve the entire system and can lead to sickness. On the other hand, the patterns set up by the subluxation can be reversed by adjustments to the spine, improving your health and the health of your nervous system.
The article goes on further to explain that the "dehabituation" (correction) process can happen slowly in a "repetitious manner" over a long period of time. It might be time to get that spine checked for any bad habits.
New Superbug-fighting Drug Defeated
Multi-drug resistant bacteria, or so-called superbugs, seem to have defeated one of the newest antibiotics called
Zyvox, American researchers have learned. See the story at http://www.msnbc.com/news/558683.asp
Here is an example of how quickly viruses and bacteria can adapt to their environment. The drug is one of the new class of antibiotics but the intelligence of the germs has already surpassed the effectiveness of the medication. Antibiotics are helpful in a crisis but should be used sparingly. Do you realize you have a very similar intelligence on board you? Let's work with your own inner intelligence, expressed through your nervous system, to build a better you.
Office Happenings
1. Science Festival. This Saturday, May 5th, our office is participating in the downtown Science Festival. Come by our office from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to see how we apply technology in our office. We will be demonstrating the scans on any children who stop by. Bring your family and enjoy the whole Science Festival.
2. Our 24 Hour Relay Team. This event is rapidly approaching. We are looking for volunteers to walk, run or just move for one hour of the twenty four on June 23 and 24. If you raise some pledge money for the time you are participating, it goes to supporting the youth of our community. You can win prizes, have fun, get some fresh air and be part of something great for the community. Contact the office, 340-0278 or
larsenfamilychiropractic@home.com for more details.
3. Wellness Orientation Workshops (We like to call them W.O.W's). These interactive and informative sessions are scheduled weekly in the office on either a Monday or Wednesday starting at 5:30 p.m. They cover topics ranging from defining health and wellness and how to achieve it to walking you through what I do when I check your spine. Join us, they are great for those who are new to our office or people who want to maximize the results they receive. Bring a friend!
