Open Lines of Communication

The keys to healthy, long-lasting relationships are open lines of communication. This is true for marriages, friendships, business partnerships and being part of a team. It is also true for the human body as well. For it to work at its best, the brain and body have to be in sync with each other.

For the body to work at all, there needs to be communication within it. Without it, your heart wouldn’t beat, your legs wouldn’t move and your stomach wouldn’t digest. Everything that happens in the body does so because it was told to do so. Do you have any idea what system is responsible for controlling and directing all processes that happen in you? It’s your nervous system.

Not only does the information that runs and guides you start in the brain, it then travels out through the spinal cord and nerves to every cell, tissue and organ in the body. When the lines are open, everything works with ease. The brain and body perform the magical dance that is life, not missing a step along the way.

The process that can start to close the lines of communication is a vertebral subluxation. A vertebral subluxation is an area of your spine that misaligns enough to interfere with your nervous system. Instead of crisp messages getting through, they get mixed up and disturbed. There are missteps along the way. The function of the entire body is thrown off.

By being under regular chiropractic care, you maximize how open the lines of communication are. This helps you experience better health and a higher quality of life. You enjoy your daily activities and the things that make life special. Get your spine checked today to keep the information flowing!

Question of the Month

Can I continue seeing my chiropractor if I am also going to physio?

The two disciplines of the healing arts often complement each other. A healthy spine and nervous system help the body heal faster. So if you are receiving care from a physiotherapist for an injury and seeing a chiropractor, it will speed up your recovery time. Rarely are there reasons why you have to stop seeing one when you are seeing the other. If that issue comes up, make sure to keep the lines of communication open between you and your health care providers.

Health News

Experts warn on health, wealth expense of U.S. drugs

While our drug costs maybe lower than the U.S., this article applies to our situation here in Canada. Both countries essentially approach health care in the same way. They are just funded differently. For example, you would get similar care for the same problem in both countries. A good article to read:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2005-04-17-medication_x.htm

It brings up some very good points about drugs and health. Are we taking way too many drugs for dubious or exaggerated ailments? Are drug companies promoting long-term use to essentially healthy people? Are new medications actually better than the older ones? Is the lack of health in people due to a medication shortage in their bodies?

Office Happenings

1. New and improved Wellness Club. We are re-launching our Wellness Club in May. We are rewarding people who stay consistent and regular with their chiropractic care. If you are in the office at least once per month for six consecutive months, your next visit in the seventh month is complimentary! That continues for each six-month period after each complimentary adjustment. If you are currently active in the Wellness Club, you can switch over or continue as you are. Contact Carol for more information and to sign up.

2. Better Living Month. The focus in May for the office is about ways to improve your daily life. Themes will include tips for safer and healthier gardening, golf and how chiropractic care can prevent injuries and improve your game, some great ergonomics suggestions and stress-reducing strategies for everyone. Make sure we see you in May!

3. Wellness Orientation Workshops. Do you ever wonder how such little force can have such a great impact on the body? Attend one of our wellness orientation workshops (W.O.W.’s) and find the answer to this question and any other you may have. The dates are Monday May 2 and Wednesday May 18 and both start at 5:30 pm here in the office. Bring a friend!

4. Amazing Race. Thanks to all those who entered and got healthier in the process. It was quite a trip. The winners will be announced in next month’s newsletter.

5. Relay for Youth. The former 24 Hour Relay has been shortened to the 12 hour Relay for Youth. We are looking for a few community-minded people who would like to help to form a team. We would need one hour of your time and collect pledges that go directly to the youth of our area. Contact Carol for more information.

6. Office Closing. We will be closed Monday May 23 for Victoria Day.

7. Science Festival. We are part of the great event again this year. It is Saturday May 28 from 10 to 4 p.m. at Central Middle School. Stop by and say hi.
