Kalynna Styba
My name is Kalynna Styba. I have been in
Red Deer for the majority of my life and definitely call it home. I went
to Lindsey Thurber Comprehensive
High School and loved every minute of it. From
there I took a few courses at Red Deer College and did a nursing attendant
course through NAIT.
I worked as a nursing attendant for 3
years. The first year and a half I worked at a small private care home
in Kentwood called Correct Care as well as in Lacombe at the Good
Samaritan Society. I loved the
atmosphere of Correct Care and enjoyed that we had the staffing
to be able to spend time with each client and truly get to know them.
Some of the best memories and friends I have are
from working there.
Once Correct Care closed I worked at Bethany
College Side on the Young and Disabled (Y&D)
/ Cognitively Aware Elderly (CAE) units, there are 14 beds for each. The
residents who live on the Y&D side are between the
ages of 26 and 50 while the CAE range all the way
up to 98. The time I spent working at Bethany was both rewarding and
heart wrenching. Knowing that you are helping someone is
the best feeling in the world. At the same time,
seeing people just a few years older than you living there is eye
opening. Because of the mental awareness of the residents on that unit
it was the most stressful and demanding job I have
ever worked, but also the most rewarding. The residents
became my friends and now that I have stopped working at Bethany I still
go to visit once or twice a week. It always warms
my heart that they are so excited to see me and to
know what is going on in my life.
Outside of work I enjoy spending time
with my family, doing a variety of things. My parents,
Eileen and Eugene, are the ones I can thank for getting me into golf. I
started playing when I was 12 or 13 and have
continued to play into my adult life, I should add not very well though. My brother, Patrick, got me into football and rugby
when we were in high school as he played on both
the teams. I still enjoy going to and watching the games.
I can also thank my family for my love of
swimming, cooking, camping and good books. I also attribute
my Crib skills to my family, but mostly my grandpa who spent every
summer teaching me to play since I could count.
I first met Dr. Stacy in 1997 at Peak
Chiropractic after I was hit by a vehicle. The results of
the accident were severe headaches and constant back pain. I had to take
Tylenol several times a day just to maintain a
normal life, and even then I couldn’t do the activities
that I enjoyed. It wasn’t long after I starting seeing Dr. Stacy
regularly that I was able to stop taking the
Tylenol and start enjoying life again.
I hope that you enjoy your experience
with us here at Larsen Family Chiropractic and I look
forward to getting to know you.
